The Parent Council holds events both inside and outside school to promote the school's community spirit, and to raise funds to support school activities and making sure every child can participate fully in school life.

We run the Winter Fayre, school discos, fun runs, bake sales, parents' nights out, clothes swaps, events for children and many more. Last year we raised thousands of pounds, all of which was spent directly on events and supplies for the children. In recent years we have funded pantomimes, school trip travel, IT equipment, sports kit and equipment, library books and much more.

Get involved:
  • You can keep up to date with all we do on our Facebook page.
  • We have a webstore for sales of tickets to events.
  • We meet every month and every parent is encouraged to attend and participate in decision making. We consult and contribute to school policy. Click here to see our meeting schedule for 2023-24.
  • You can always get in touch with us at westcoatsparentcouncil@gmail.com or on the Facebook page.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
In West Coats, we strive to provide a range of rich learning experiences which develop the whole child. We recognise the value and importance of pupil leadership and participation, and seek to ensure we have robust and effective systems and provisions in place to ensure that all children reach their full potential both inside and outside of the classroom and curricular subjects.
Wider Achievement Position Statement 2023-24

The wearing of a school uniform helps promote the identity of the school in the local community and helps create an ethos of sharing and pride in the school.

  • Light blue polo shirt
  • White shirt with school tie
  • Grey or royal blue jumper or cardigan
  • Grey skirt, shorts or trousers
  • Blue and white gingham summer dress
  • Blazer (optional)
For PE, pupils should wear
  • Light blue polo shirt
  • Grey shorts or jogging bottoms (free from logos)
  • Clean trainers either white or black
We have four Houses within West Coats, and all children and staff belong to a house. Our Houses are:
Bell, Fleming, LivingstoneMacIntosh
Our house system provides an opportunity to develop communities within the school which spans across the stages. It also enables us to educate about democracy in a real context, by holding elections for our P6 Vice Captians and P7 House Captains. Pupils work together to earn points for their house which is recorded on our scoreboard. A point can be earned by going over and above and working hard to demonstrate our values of kindness, confidence and excellence. At the end of each term, the house with the most points celebrates with a ‘House Treat’ run by Miss Brownlie.

This year our P7 House Captains are:

F. Duggan and E. Hellis /  L. Buchanan and S. McClafferty /  B. Turner and L. Wright / N. Anderson and F. McLeod

Our P6 Vice Captains are:
D. Barr and H. Greer /  G. Richmond and I. Beaton /  J. Laing and L. Neil / A. Dickson and L. Burrell
